Sometimes there isn’t enough light shed on the great things that goes on in sports, and this story is one of the coolest we might see all year. During the Cleveland Indians’ spring training game against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday, manager Terry Francona went out to the mound to talk to pitcher Blake Wood.
It wasn’t your ordinary trip to the mound though.
“When I went to take him out, (catcher Luke) Carlin was coming and I told him to stay back there a little bit,” Francona said, via Fox Sports. “I went out there and asked (Wood) if he ever made the team on the mound? He was like no. I go ‘well, you just did.’ After that we came and talked to him the dugout but you could tell he was pretty excited.”
And incredibly classy and cool move from Terry Francona, and a picture of the moment from Indians president Mark Shapiro.
This was a cool moment and classic Tito. He tells Blake Wood that he made club as he takes him out a few days ago. pic.twitter.com/XKHVLA875F
