SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert had an exceptional Pro Day that got NFL circles buzzing, and that could be working wonders for his stock in the 2014 NFL Draft. According to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, Gilbert is shooting up boards and could end up going as high as the third-round.
Gilbert was at one time one of the top quarterbacks in the nation when he was a five-star recruit joining the Texas Longhorns, but he struggled and ultimately landed at SMU.
Now, he is trying to regain his status as one of the top signal-callers and his Pro Day is certainly getting attention.
According to Brandt, Gilbert’s Pro Day was “better than half” of the quarterbacks who were invited to the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this year.
“I thought Gilbert’s workout was better than half of those who were in Indianapolis last month,” Brandt wrote. “He has good accuracy, very good velocity, and is a great athlete with NFL size.”
Gilbert was an impressive 87 of 88 for his Pro Day.
He is certainly a name to keep an eye on if your team needs depth at quarterback on Day 3 of the draft.
Oh, and let’s never forget this stunning play he made during his time at SMU:
