Mike Trout signed a six-year extension with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim that will pay him $144.5 million dollars, or $24 million per year for the 22-year old centerfielder and the runner-up to Miguel Cabrera in the last two MVP races.
Trout very well could have won the last two MVP’s for his work in the batter’s box as well in the field, but the voters weren’t kind to Trout who has a WAR (wins-above-replacement) north of 10 in each of the last two seasons.
He was due to make $1 million this season as the biggest bargain in the history of Major League Baseball, and he still may be for the Angels who now have three hitters signed to a $100 million contract including Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton.
If there is any doubt about how deserving Trout is of this mega-million extension, then check out this video from mlb.com that shows the best moments of Trout’s career. As great as the home runs and stolen bases are in this video, his spectacular leaping catches are the real jaw-dropping parts of this 3:19 highlight show.
