Thousands of dollars of historic Auburn University football gear was allegedly stolen by three students, this according to the Auburn Police Division.
Reports confirmed that over twenty items were removed from the Auburn locker room at Jordan-Hare Stadium, including helmets and jerseys belonging to Auburn alums like Bo Jackson and Cam Newton.
In total, nearly $17,000 dollars worth of equipment was stolen before it was recovered in full.
On Friday, APD Capt. Lorenza Dorsey confirmed that 20 items were taken from the Auburn football locker room at Jordan-Hare Stadium on March 22. The estimated value of the items listed on the APD’s incident report totals $16,826.
In addition to the memorabilia, other pieces of equipment listed as taken on the incident report include a helmet, shoulder pads, wide receiver gloves, wrists bands, football pants, and No. 1 and No. 81 jerseys.
I mean really, what were they thinking? Did they really believe nobody would notice the missing items, especially those belonging to Jackson and Newton?
And man – how hard has the sports memorabilia market fallen? Game used items from Bo Jackson and Cam Newton (along with the other stolen items) can’t even fetch $20,000?
