The Cincinnati Reds will open up the 2014 regular season in a National League Central Division showdown against the love-able St. Louis Cardinals.

But before all that goes down, the Reds have made a flurry of roster moves that features pitches Sean Marshall and Aroldis Chapman.

Cincinnati designated right handed pitcher Pedro Beato for assignment. This is a move that was made in order for the team to make some room on their 40 man roster. He was claimed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox back in October.

Infielder Jack Hannahan was placed on the 60-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury. He’s still trying to get himself healthy enough to play after undergoing shoulder surgery during the offseason. Right now the timetable for his return is looking like late May, early June.

Right handed pitcher Brett Marshall was added to the 60-day disabled list with a strained tendon in his right middle finger. This can’t be comfortable at all. The 24 year old right hander was looking as if he would fill in for Matt Latos in the starting rotation. Now it appears that he’ll miss the first two months of the season. Can’t rule out an addition 15-days.

Left handed pitcher Aroldis Chapman was placed on the 15-day disabled list, this move is retroactive to March 21st. It’s obvious what happened to this poor guy, I hope he recovers quickly and is able to get back to work without any problems.

Left handed starter Matt Latos was also added to the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21st with a left knee injury. He’s also coming back from minor elbow surgery, so he must feel as if the world is against him right now. Latos should be ready by the middle of the month.
