Jon Fitch does not want to fight against Palhares in July

Last night, at World Series of Fighting 9, Rousimar Palhares became the Welterweight champion after defeating Steve Carl by inverted heel hook in the first round. It was an incredibly impressive performance by Palhares, who will now take on fellow former UFC veteran, Jon Fitch at WSOF 11.

At the post fight press conference, WSOF president Ali Abdelaziz announced the Palhares vs Fitch matchup as well as the co-main event between WSOF Lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, and challenger Nick Newell.

About a half hour after the announcement, Jon Fitch posted this on Twitter:

It seems that Fitch wanted to be placed on the WSOF 10 card on June 14th. If you recall, when the WSOF added Palhares to the roster late last year, Fitch commented that he would not fight Palhares because of his past transgressions.

Fitch’s tweet last night will certainly lend some people to believe that Fitch is trying to dodge Palhares.

We will have to wait and see if WSOF is willing to move the fight to June, or convince Fitch to fight in July.
