The San Diego Padres were considered an odd choice by some as the hosting team for the much-anticipated Sunday Night Baseball opening game for the 2014 season.
Having the game in San Diego, however, did allow the team to pay tribute to the late Jerry Coleman. That is appropriate in that it allows baseball to remember one of the greats to ever call games.
Per some of the writers in attendance.
They just showed a photo of Jerry Coleman and his dog Gus. I nearly lost it.

That is an appropriate and well-deserved tribute to Coleman. Now the Padres faithful will hope that the team can turn in a victory on this night to open the 2014 season.
