The Tampa Bay Lightning had one rollercoaster of a game against the Buffalo Sabres. Lightning center Steven Stamkos sent a pass across the offensive zone that his teammate missed, bounced off the boards and into the goal for an own goal, giving the Sabres the lead.
They ended up tying the game and Stamkos scored the game winner in over time.
“It’s a tough bounce, but we responded,” Stamkos said, via ESPN. “We get a power play after that and tie it up and that was a good push back from us.”
Oddly, it was the first time Stamkos had seen a own-goal live.
“I’ve seen it a couple times, never live,” Stamkos said. “You see it on the highlights. I’m sure I’ll make them now in the un-top 10, but as soon as it went over our D’s stick I knew it had a pretty good chance to go in.”
