In what was one of the worst kept secrets in college basketball, Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins has officially declared for the 2014 NBA Draft.
Per Chad Ford of ESPN:
No surprise. Wiggins announces officially he’ll declare for the 2014 NBA Draft. He’s No. 1 on our Board and Lottery Mock Draft
Rumors swirled in recent weeks suggesting that Wiggins was undecided about his return to Kansas, but the Canadian born Wiggins is a lock to be selected in the top five and is almost assured of being a top three selection – this all assuming he’s not drafted first overall which is completely within reason.
So while returning to Kansas may have been a potential thought, opting to not be a potential number one overall pick is simply far too much to pass on.
Wiggins is an immense talent though like most in the 2014 NBA Draft, will probably struggle to be a franchise altering talent in his early years. Though, given his ability, a routine trip to the NBA’s All-Star game as he enters his prime is certainly within question as he’ll be a player to build around as he matures and gains an NBA body.
