The Philadelphia Phillies and Jimmy Rollins had a rough spring training. Rollins and manager Ryne Sandberg are still getting to know one another. In the process they had some disagreements. You know, disagreements about things like “should Rollins be benched or not?”
That led to some tense moments and trade rumors involving Rollins (despite his ability to veto any trade). So it is in that uncomfortable context that Rollins came up to the plate with the bases loaded on Opening Day against the Texas Rangers.
Apparently this swing by Rollins set the tone for an offensive outburst, as these two teams would go on to score 24 combined runs. In the end the Phillies came away with a 14-10 victory.
