On Monday, the NFL Network’s NFL Media draft analyst, Mike Mayock, released the latest edition of his position-by-position rankings as far as draft eligible prospects are concerned.
Although Mayock ranks every position, quarterback, as it so often does, stands out.
Mayock has Texas A&M Aggies’ signal-caller Johnny Manziel at the top of his list.
Mayock and his colleagues attended Texas A&M’s pro day last week and came away extremely impressed with the way Manziel performed.
Mayock ranks Blake Bortles of the Central Florida Knights, the trendy projection for the Houston Texans to take with the top overall pick in the draft, second. He has Teddy Bridgewater of the Louisville Cardinals third and Fresno State Bulldogs’ quarterback Derek Carr fourth. A.J. McCarron of the Alabama Crimson Tide and Jimmy Garoppolo of the Eastern Illinois Panthers come in in a tie for fifth.
Mayock believes that Manziel has an arm that compares to anyone’s in the draft, including Bortles, and will quickly learn how to play better in the pocket.
Manziel passed for 4,114 yards, 37 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2013. He rushed for 759 yards and another nine touchdowns.
