The San Francisco 49ers don’t have many weaknesses, but if you had to pick, you’d likely zero in on their secondary as problematic.
The top name now is probably Champ Bailey – all 35 years of him. The future Hall of Fame player missed 5 games with a foot injury last year, and his agent said he probably should have missed the season.
Even with the injury, Bailey was decent for most of the season. There’s also a possibility Bailey will be better with an off-season to recover.
Bailey is also open to playing safety and the 49ers love versatility.
Bailey isn’t the player he once was, though he’d certainly bring some stability to the 49ers locker room in addition to veteran leadership he’d bring to the secondary.
A very possible suspension for fellow defensive back Chris Culliver (alleged hit and run) is likely to force the 49ers to make a move and it appears Bailey could be on the 49ers radar.
