The Texas Rangers are having to start the season without their ace Yu Darvish on the mound. Even though they’re trotting Tanner Scheppers to the mound, Darvish could make his return in less than a week following the opener.
From Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News:
After the pomp of Monday’s season opener, the Texas Rangers will meet to plot out the next step for pitcher Yu Darvish in his return from a stiff neck, but that return could very well be sooner rather than later.
Perhaps as early as Sunday in Tampa Bay.
“He’s a little bit of a different guy,” Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said. “We’ve been able to kind of keep it going a little, too. We are not talking about an arm or shoulder injury; we’re talking about a stiff neck. So, we aren’t starting from scratch. Still, we will be smart.”
Grant also suggests that pitcher Colby Lewis might not be far behind.
