2014 NFL Draft Rumors: Miami Dolphins want to draft a running back?

The Miami Dolphins already signed Knowshon Moreno to a one-year deal earlier this offseason and both Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas remain on the roster, but the Dolphins are still reportedly interested in drafting a running back.

Despite the fact the Dolphins just signed Knowshon Moreno, despite the fact they like Lamar Miller, I’m told the personnel department would still like to add one more running back — likely somewhere between the fourth-fifth rounds — to add juice and get more talent in the backfield.

That player, from what is considered a deep running back class in this draft, must have one of the following abilities:

He needs to make defenders miss.

Moreno, while talented, may not be anything more than a one-year stop-gap with the Dolphins and it’s possible the team doesn’t have much confidence in either Miller or Thomas, thus the desire to add an additional running back.

There haven’t been any specific players linked to the Dolphins at this time, though we’ll probably hear of more defined interest as the draft draws near.

It would be a good idea with a good veteran like Moreno and get a rookie to give him experience.

Daniel Thomas is dog-meat and Mike Gillislee showed little in minimal opportunities. In a VERY deep RB class it makes all the sense in the world to add someone to the competition. Moreno is an outstanding blocker and solid outlet receiver, which is a huge need. But hes not an elite halfback as a pure runner.

It seems likely that Moreno and Miller will make the roster. I’d love to see Thomas cut. There’s just nothing left to see from him. We should draft a RB and open up the #3 slot to competition. Thigpen should also be challenged for the return job(s), either by the drafted RB or another rookie (there should be guys with return skills late in the draft or street free agency).

Terrence West in the 4th round, or someone like Tyler Gaffney in the 5th, makes sense to me.
