‘Blackfish’ car to race at Talladega thanks to Simpsons creator

Former Open Wheel and current Arca Series driver Leilani Munter has been doing what she can to race in the upcoming Talladega event, but things didn’t look good as she lacked the needed $115,000 entry fee.

But no longer as Munter was given the needed sponsorship money by none other than Simpsons creator Sam Simon.

Simon, who is dealing with terminal colon cancer has vowed to give away his fortune with much of it going towards animal rights. So when he heard that Munter was driving the ‘Blackfish’ car (a film about animal cruelty at unnamed ‘amusement’ parks), Simon put up the funds for Munter to enter the big race.

Per TMZ:

As we reported, Leilani had desperately been trying to raise money to pay for the $115,000 fee to enter the car for a big race at an ARCA event at Talladega Superspeedway on May 3rd. As of our last story, she had raised only $7,500.

But that all changed last week — Leilani appeared on Simon’s radio show to talk about her car and orca-related activism … and Simon was so moved, Leilani tells us, he donated the balance of her entrance fee immediately after the show … $107,500.

Expect to see Munter and her ‘Blackfish’ car on the track come May 3rd.
