Man, talk about a tough crowd for Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez.
The young phenom took the mound for the Marlins on Opening Day and completely baffled the Colorado Rockies en route to a 10-1 win, but it wasn’t his arm that got the big news – rather his weak hit.
With Fernandez batting in the bottom of the third (his first at-bat of the season, mind you), the young ace nubbed a ball to the second baseman.
The ground ball was hit so slowly, Fernandez’s mother couldn’t help but laugh. Alongside Fernandez’s mom was his grandmother, who like her daughter, couldn’t help but give a chuckle.
Thankfully he didn’t give them much to laugh about in regards to his pitching performance.
The funniest thing here might be the fact of how serious Fernandez takes his at-bat’s. As you’ll recall, Fernandez hit a home run during his rookie season (which caused a a bit of a skirmish thanks to ogling) and appears overly enthused in the batters box with his Willie Mays Hays batting stance.
