One of the most intriguing prospects in this year’s NFL Draft class is none other than — and unsurprisingly — Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. After fluctuating in value on mock drafts everywhere, his Pro Day was a national sensation that even a former U.S. President and First Lady attended.
So it’s needless to say that he’s drawing attention all over the board, including from a former quarterback who knows a thing or two about theatrics. According to SFGate.com, San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh likes what he sees in Manziel and would welcome him to the Niners.
“I’d welcome the challenges of taking Johnny Manziel,” Harbaugh said. “(He) sees the field like nobody I’ve ever seen see the field in college football. You’d love to work with that.”
Obviously, Manziel will never play for the 49ers as long as they have Colin Kaepernick and as long as the Niners are picking at the back of the draft.
Still, it’s the endorsement by a sort of quarterback guru that is important as some are still not sold on Manziel. He has a lot to prove, but the endorsements he’s getting are going a long way in preserving his top 10 draft status.
