Shayna Baszler says TUF 18 loss 'worked out in the end'

When The Ultimate Fighter season 18 cast was announced, many expected that Shayna Baszler would win the first ever season to feature women. Baszler was easily one of the most accomplished MMA fighters on the show, and had the experience to win it all.

In the end, Baszler lost in a shocking upset to the eventual winner, Julianna Pena in the first fight on TUF 18.

Baszler, who is set to make her official UFC debut on April 16 against former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman, spoke to Ariel Helwani yesterday on the MMA hour and explained how the loss was actually to her benefit:

I think I’m in a better position now than I would have been had I won the show. Everything worked out in the end. I’m moved out to California, I’m living with Ronda [Rousey] and Jessamyn [Duke] and Marina [Shafir], and I think if I would have won the show I wouldn’t have made so many changes, I would have been satisfied with where I am.

We will find out if Baszler’s change of scenery has affected her fighting style as we are just over two weeks away from her debut at the TUF Nations Finale. Stick with FanSided as we will have full coverage of the event.
