Had you not known any better, you might think Derek Jeter spent a good portion of his career with the Houston Astros because the team is seemingly doing what they can to cash in on Jeter’s farewell tour.
The veteran New York Yankees shortstop is planning to hang up the cleats after this season and the Astros, not to miss their golden opportunity, invited fans to come down and watch the start of his final Major League season.
Not only did the team honor him in a pre-game ceremony but they’re also selling Jeter merchandise in their team store.

I understand the ceremony as it’ll be the only time the Yankees visit the Astros this year thanks to the new schedule quirks, but selling his merchandise? Don’t get me wrong – it’s a wise choice and for a team that struggles with financials, it’s a smart move. But still.
Then again – maybe it was all part of a smooth ploy on the part of the Astros who ended up beaning Jeter in his first at-bat of the season.
