Pavel Datsyuk, Daniel Alfredsson Out For Detroit vs. Boston

Just when you thought the Detroit Red Wings might be starting to get healthier at just the right time, one player’s return is delayed while another leaves the lineup.

Pavel Datsyuk, who hinted on Tuesday that a return on Wednesday was possible, won’t return to the lineup tonight while Daniel Alfredsson, who hasn’t skated in the past two days, will also miss Detroit’s crucial game against Boston.

If the NHL regular season ended today, the Detroit Red Wings would find themselves in the playoffs for the 23rd consecutive season. Unfortunately, the season doesn’t end today, and the Red Wings are in the middle of a five-team battle for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference.

Should Detroit still end up in the playoffs after it’s all said and done, it not only says something about the team’s coaching, but it’s ability to develop talent (Gustav Nyquist anyone?) as well.
