Tampa Bay's Mike Kotska Diagnosed With Concussion

Thanks to the hit by Douglas Murray in last night’s Tampa Bay vs. Montreal tilt, Lightning defenseman Mike Kotska has been diagnosed with a concussion by team doctors.

Here is the hit for those who haven’t seen it.

Tampa Bay head coach John Cooper stated, via the team website, that he didn’t see the hit, but knew it had to be bad based on the crowd’s response.

“It’s a fast game, it’s an instinctive game, and those are the things we’re trying to take out of the game,” Cooper said. “I’m sure Murray wasn’t looking to hit him in the head. I think maybe he thought Mike was going to get around him, I don’t know.”

There is no timetable for Kotska, but the hope is that he will be able to return in time for a a Lightning playoff run. Murray will face a hearing for the hit, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he finds himself sitting for a couple games.
