Much like they did with wide receiver Deion Branch after his stint with the Seattle Seahawks, the Patriots are bringing back one of their own after a fairly unsuccessful stint with another team.

According to Tom E. Curran of CSN New England, the Patriots will sign safety Patrick Chung.

Because Chung graded out as one of the worst safeties in football last season, Curran felt he had to prove he wasn’t joking.

Chung was originally drafted by the Patriots with the 34th overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. The Patriots obviously had high hopes for the former Oregon Duck, but things really didn’t work out. After four seasons in New England, Chung signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, reuniting with his former college coach, Chip Kelly.

Chung was released after one season in Philadelphia.

He had 59 tackles in 12 games for the Eagles last season.
