Oregon sensation Edward Cheserek, the owner of three NCAA individual titles, will make his 2014 outdoor track debut at the Stanford Invitational this weekend, competing in the 10,000 meters alongside teammates Parker Stinson and Trevor Dunbar.
Head coach Robert Johnson said the goal for the Ducks is to have all three runners challenge the NCAA “A” standard of 28 minutes, 45 seconds:
“We want it to be as easy an effort as possible. The goal there is to run the standard, not run a really fast time, not really try and set anything on fire, just get the standard and be over and done with it and don’t have to worry about it anymore.”
Unfortunately for Oregon fans, Cheserek’s participation in the Stanford Invitational means he won’t compete against the Arizona Wildcats at Hayward Field this week. That’s too bad because the Wildcats feature Lawi Lalang, the dominant runner whom Cheserek upset at the recent NCAA Indoor Championships.
