As we head into the find day of the week, there’s a full Friday of baseball ahead of us with many home openers giving us baseball all day long. There are eight games schedule for afternoon starts with seven more on the slate for tonight.
Most teams are also getting to the end of their rotation as they play their fourth or fifth game, but don’t worry there are still some decent options if you need help with your pitching numbers heading into the weekend. There are three streaming starter options that I like for today.
As always, all of my selections are always available in at least half of ESPN leagues and their ownership percentages is included in parentheses. If you have any questions, you can find me on twitter @ZT_Sports or drop a comment in the box at the bottom of the page. Looking ahead to Friday, these are the pitchers I’d look to pick up with a brief analysis of each in the following slides and my results from the season so far on the final slide.
Travis Wood-Chicago Cubs (4.9%)
Wood gets the nod in the Cubs home opener today after a surprisingly solid season last year finishing with a 3.11 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. He doesn’t rack up K’s and getting wins with the Cubs lineup is always a tricky task, but if you need a solid outing to help your WHIP and ERA, he’s the top option.
Wood and the Cubs will face the Phillies on Friday afternoon who Wood held to two runs in 6.1 innings in his only start against them last season. Wrigley can be tough to pitch in during the day, but that’s more of a factor when things get warmer. Wood is the safest widely available option, so give him a look if you can afford a solid start without a ton of striekouts.
