Gio Gonzalez, unaware he hit home run, sprints around bases (Video)

Poor Gio Gonzalez.

It’s hard enough to get a leaky single as a pitcher, let alone crank one over the wall. And when you actually do it? You don’t even get the glory, something Gonzalez found out on Wednesday evening.

As the New York Mets were hosting the Washington Nationals, Gonzalez stepped to the plate against Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon. Gonzalez ended up hitting a bombing shot into left field which cleared the fence – or did it? The ball immediately bounced back into the field of play, confusing all but the umpires.

Once the Mets left fielder saw the umpires rule it was a home run, he gave up his chase but not Gio. No, Gio seemed completely unaware of what was going on behind him and seeing the ball bounce so far away, he knew he had one goal – run like the wind.

So that’s what he did, sprinting around the bases on what was a true home run.

Might be the quickest trot we’ve ever seen.
