For over a week now we’ve heard that Matt Kemp would likely return to the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup, presumably on Friday April 4th, the Dodgers home opener.
Of course, with Kemp and his recent injury history, everything is somewhat fluid but the All-Star outfielder all but confirmed that he would be in the field tomorrow afternoon against arch rival, the San Francisco Giants.
“Opening day at Dodger Stadium is always a sight to see,” Kemp said. “It’s always sold out, there’s always some type of excitement, 56,000 screaming Dodger fans, man. What a better way to come back than to come back for the home opener?”
Kemp officially comes off his disabled list stint tomorrow and the Dodgers don’t feel as if he needs any rehab time, so he’ll be ready to go even though the Dodgers have yet to officially announce such.
It’s not known who will sit for Kemp, though the most likely candidate is Andre Ethier who has filled in during the first few games of the season.
Despite the return, it’s likely the Dodgers will be cautious with Kemp and give him routine days off for a few weeks.
