Gregg Marshall is on his way to building a powerhouse basketball program with the Wichita State Shockers. They followed up their Final Four appearance last season by going undefeated through the regular season this year, and he’s been rewarded for those efforts by being named the 2014 AP Coach of the Year.

Although the season didn’t end the way that Marshall nor his team would have wanted with a loss to a very good Kentucky team, who is now in the Final Four, in the Third Round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament, this was still one of the more impressive coaching performances in quite some time. No one realizes how difficult it actually is to keep a team focused through the length of an entire season, much less keeping them focused when they’re undefeated.
Since the season has ended, Marshall has been targeted as a candidate for a few open jobs, but it would be a shame to see him leave Wichita State with the momentum that this program has going for them at this moment.
