MLB Rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers bench Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp to start

Welp – that was quick.

Just hours after the Los Angeles Dodgers announced Matt Kemp would be activated from the disabled list but not starting, Kemp will now get the start – this after the team decided to bench Yasiel Puig.

Not even two weeks after the Dodgers and Puig held a team meeting, the young phenom was allegedly late arriving to the ballpark, forcing the benching from manager Don Mattingly.

Puig benched for being late to ballpark and now Kemp is in the lineup and batting second.

There was no official reason given for Puig’s late arrival to the ballpark, so it’s possible Puig could have a legit excuse and Mattingly is simply playing hard ball with his young star. Or, as we’ve seen with Puig before, he could simply just be acting like his normal self and doing what he wants, when he wants.

This time the tardiness will cost him a spot in the Dodgers home opening lineup.

It remains to be seen if the punishment will continue past this game or if Puig will be allowed to play a reserve role today.
