Oh man, Thursday was not a good day for Major League Baseball umpires.

What started off with CB Bucknor’s horrific strike three call on Minnesota Twins first baseman Joe Mauer ended with Sean Barber’s even more embarrassing non strike three call.

As the Seattle Mariners were taking on the Oakland Athletics, the fifth inning was thought to be over as Seattle’s pitcher threw a perfectly placed curve right down the middle. He thought it was strike three. The catcher thought it was strike three. Even the batter thought it was strike three as all three players began walking to their respective dugouts. The only person who didn’t see it that way? The umpire, who gave each three a bewildered look as they attempted to walk off the field.

It ended up biting the Mariners in the end as Oakland was able to scratch a run in the fifth after that, allowing them to be in position to win in extra innings.

Needless to say, I have a feeling Major League Baseball might be coming down a little hard on their umpires in the near future.
