NBA Rumors: New York Knicks to fire Mike Woodson if team misses playoffs?

New York Knicks head coach Mike Woodson might be coaching for more than just a trip to the postseason, he’s coaching for job security.

According to Sheriden Hoops, Woodson is set to be fired if the Knicks don’t make the playoffs.

For Woodson, however, making the playoffs means much more. His job is on the line.

“No playoffs, no Woody,” one league source told SheridanHoops.

“Without question he’s fired (if they miss the playoffs),” one Eastern Conference scout also told SheridanHoops.

The notion of the Knicks firing Woodson if the team misses out on the postseason isn’t exactly shocking news considering what the team has went through this year, though, it’s still headline worthy.

Thankfully for the Knicks and Woodson, they hold their own destiny (for the most part) as they currently sit in the final spot in the Eastern Conference. Percentage points behind them are the Atlanta Hawks, though they’ve spent the last two months in a freefall and don’t look overly poised for a postseason birth.

Woodson was an idiot tonight. Melo was playing like garbage all quarters then you bring him in the 4th and rely on him when other players were hot. Get fired. Need a coach who isn’t afraid of benching Melo.

These is the kind of journalism that aggravates me. if you do your homework you would know Phil jax is bringing in another coach to coach the triangle o. woodson is gone at years end regardless . only reason he is here is to try and get to the playoffs, and he cant even accomplish that! BAH……….

Woodson is a terrible coach and Melo is a selfish player. Woodson should have been fired when he allowed Melo and Smith to cause the Knicks to lose in the playoffs last year. It was all Melo’s selfish play and Woodson allowing him to make the same knucklehead post-up and miss over and over again. It wasn’t working. His shooting percentage was way less than that of the rest of the collective team and so was Smith’s. But Smith and Melo took the great majority of the shots regardless of whether they were open. Woodson did nothing about it. That was the part which was unbelievable. That same idiot coaching has continued into this season. Woodson should have been fired yesterday. And if Melo refuses to be coached, he should be signed and traded if he doesn’t bolt. By the way there is no way Melo is a max contract caliber player. He is not better than James Harden as an overall player and should not command more than Harden. Whether the Knicks should or need to overpay this guy (after ascertaining that he will listen to a coach) is another story. In fact, I am not sure Phil Jackson is so very much interested in signing Melo to that kind of a contract without exploring other options.
