Kenya’s Joyce Chepkirui set the course record at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon on Saturday, recording a blistering time of 1:06:19 on her way to besting the old mark, set last year by Gladys Cherono, by about 30 seconds.
Chepkirui, speaking with reporters after the race, said she was happy with her performance despite not accomplishing her goal of breaking the 66-minute barrier:
“I was feeling fine at 5km, 10km and 15km.
“I hoped to run under 66 minutes, but the last kilometre was very tough. But I am of course very happy to have won this race with a course record and a personal best.”
In the men’s race, Kenya’s Peter Kirui won in a time of 59:22.
