This weekend seems to be a big one for transition tagged center Alex Mack, as it could be the weekend he starts to move towards being with a new team in the 2014 season. After contract talks have gone nowhere with the Cleveland Browns, the Jacksonville Jaguars have reentered the race for Mack and may be gearing up to make him an offer the Browns can’t or won’t want to match.
According to reports on Saturday, this could be a deal worth upwards of $22 million guaranteed over three years. On Sunday, a source fired back at the reports, saying to ProFootballTalk that such an offer would be matched in a second by the Browns.
It’s “nuts,” the source said, adding that the Browns would match an offer from the Jaguars paying out $22 million over three years “in a second.”
Fora team hellbent on getting markedly better in 2014, the Browns losing their Pro Bowl center would be a big blow. They have the money to match a crazy offer for Mack and it would be foolish of them not to, as solid offensive line play id a premium in this day and age of the NFL.
