The World Series winning Boston Red Sox are currently a game and a half out of first place in the American League East, tied with the New York Yankees in the division and only a half game behind the Toronto Blue Jays.
Boston will be taking on the Milwaukee Brewers in interleague play today at Fenway Park in Boston. They’re looking to avoid the three game sweep, dropping the first two games by the score of 6-2, 7-6.
But before the Red Sox take the field against the Brewers, the champions have placed third baseman Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 1 right calf strain. The organization felt it was bad enough to place him on the disabled list, but it’s nothing that will keep him away from the lineup for more than 15 days unless he does something away from the field that makes it worse.
So with Middlebrooks on the disabled list, the Red Sox have recalled infielder Brock Holt. The 25 year old infielder picked up 72 plate appearances with the Major League club last year.
