Ryan Zimmerman pinch-hits for Nationals

Waiting for the results of a test can be nervewracking, but waiting’s really all you can do.

Case in point, Ryan Zimmerman, who did not start Sunday’s game against the Braves for Washington, came in to pinch-hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. He was hitting in the pitcher’s spot, so he did not see any field time, as he awaits the results of an MRI he took over the weekend.

The MASN Twitter account for the Washington Nationals (@masnNationals) says that Zimmerman has experienced no pain in the shoulder while swinging the bat, but it is obviously hindering his throwing at third base. As Zimmerman struck out, Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post wondered whether his next start would be on a rehab assignment in the minors.

It’s obvious to me that the man has the “yips”. He doesn’t need an orthopedist. He needs a psychologist. I can’t see how they haven’t figured this out yet. Zimmerman said it himself: “My arm isn’t doing what my brain wants it to do”.
