Yu Darvish goes 7 strong for Rangers

It did not appear that there was any rust for Yu Darvish after not pitching in a game situation for two weeks.

Darvish, who missed the last week of Spring Training and his Opening Day pitching assignment due to a stiff neck, came out firing against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, his 2014 debut. In seven innings, Darvish allowed 7 hits and worked his way out of jams in the later innings, but he struck out 6. One of those was strikeout number 500 on Wil Myers. Darvish became the fastest pitcher to hit the 500 strikeout total and led all of baseball last year with 277 Ks.

One of Darvish’s keys for this season was to be more efficient with his pitches, and at just 89 pitches over 7 innings, he did just that.
