Captain America 3 to be released on same weekend as Superman-Batman film

Fresh off of a record-setting U.S. debut for Captain America: The Winter Soldier in which the Marvel sequel took in an estimated $96.2 million for the  largest U.S. debut ever for the month of April and $203.3 million worldwide over the weekend, plans for the release of the third Captain America movie are already in the works.

Captain America 3 is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016 which also happens to be the same date as Warner Bros.’ untitled Superman-Batman movie with Ben Affleck in the role of Batman and Henry Cavill from Man of Steel reprising his role as Superman.

Movie goers will have a jam-packed weekend as they flock to the theaters to see the superhero movies and Marvel and Warner Bros. will be competing for box office bragging rights.

Variety suggests that one of these two blockbusters will move off their date so as to not “cannibalize” one another, and from a business perspective it certainly makes a great deal of sense to capitalize on the opening weekend without having a massive competitor threatening to crush your opening weekend numbers at the box-office.
