The New York Mets and injured closer Bobby Parnell were expected to wait six weeks before making a decision on his impending Tommy John surgery, but just days after that announcement, Parnell decided he would go under the knife.
Working his way back from his own injury, Hanrahan has received interest from a handful of teams but few have a better situation for Hanrahan to step into considering he could be placed in the closing role immediately after signing.
According to a baseball source, there is “definitely a possibility” that the Mets sign free agent reliever Joel Hanrahan, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Hanrahan is expected to sign in the near future, and could be the veteran piece that the Mets are looking for at the back-end of their bullpen.
As of now there have been no reported contractual talks but there appears to be heavy interest.
