The San Francisco Giants were hopeful that they could agree on a new contract with Pablo Sandoval before spring training came to an end, but the fan favorite wanted a deal similar to the five year, $90 million dollar offer San Francisco handed out to Hunter Pence.
That was far too rich for the Giants who decided to put contractual talks on the back burner, but the two sides have apparently rekindled talks and exchanged proposals recently.
Both sides remain ‘optimistic’ that a middle ground will be found.
Giants, Pablo Sandoval’s representation have exchanged more contract proposals over Friday/Saturday. Deal not close yet; cautious optimism.
The 27-year-old fan favorite is set to become a free agent at season end and is sure to cash in either with the Giants or another team, though he probably isn’t going to get the Hunter Pence type deal he’s looking for.
San Francisco doesn’t want to lose Sandoval but they also don’t want to overpay, so expect the talks to continue for a while.
