It has been a tough offseason for Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers’ offense.
They released veteran wide receiver Steve Smith and he signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Wide receiver Ted Ginn left the Panthers to join the Arizona Cardinals and they lost a third receiver, Brandon LaFell, to the New England Patriots.
The Panthers hosted veteran Jason Avant, who was released by the Philadelphia Eagles, on Monday.
According to Joe Person of The Charlotte Observer, Avant and the Panthers have a deal and place and the official announcement should come soon.
Sounds like the Panthers have a deal in place with free agent WR Jason Avant. Official announcement expected soon.

Avant was originally drafted by the Eagles with the 109th overall pick of the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft. The former Michigan Wolverine spent eight seasons in Philadelphia before his release.
Last season, Avant made 38 receptions for 447 yards and two touchdowns.
He is the third wide receiver to sign with the Panthers, joining Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood.
