There has been some increasing buzz that the Detroit Lions would like to select Clemson Tigers star wide receiver Sammy Watkins in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Of course, Watkins is the top rated pass catcher available this year, so the Lions may have to pull some strings in order to land their top target.

Many believe that Watkins will be off the board by the time the Lions are on the clock, so Detroit would likely need to jump up in the draft order if they plan to pair Watkins with Calvin Johnson.

On Tuesday, the team began doing more extensive research on Watkins after having him in for a pre-draft visit at the team facilities.

If Watkins is off the board when the Lions are selecting with the No. 10 pick, Texas A&M’s Mike Evans could be their Plan B.
