Final 2014 NCAA Women’s Tournament bracket: UConn Huskies, Geno Auriemma grab ninth national championship

For the ninth time since taking over the program, Geno Auriemma has led the UConn Lady Huskies to a national championship as they were able to cap off yet another undefeated season by defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday, 79-58.

Back in 2004, both the Men’s and Women’s hoops programs at UConn completed the clean sweep of the national titles, and on the 10th anniversary of that amazing feat, they’ve done it again as the men were crowned champs Monday night when they defeated Kentucky.

Auriemma and the Lady Huskies were dominant in this one from start to finish once again, taking a commanding 45-38 lead into the half, and never letting that foot off the gas pedal in the final 20 minutes.

Although Notre Dame was still without top scorer Natalie Achonwa, that still may have only made a slight difference in the outcome as the 2014 season has belonged to Auriemma and the Lady Huskies all along.
