Omar Infante has sprained jaw after being hit in face by pitch

A scary scene took place on Monday evening when Kansas City Royals infielder Omar Infante took a pitch to the face, but disaster was avoided as Infante only has ‘minor’ injuries.

Of course, if I was the one who had to get six stitches, had a sprained jaw and was dealing with an absurd amount of pain the morning after like Infante is, I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable calling the injuries ‘minor’ but given what could have happened, the injuries certainly aren’t as bad as they could have been.

Infante has a sprained jaw, required 6 stitches and has a “non-concussive head injury.” He’ll be evaluated for 48 hours before DL decision.

Until a decision on Infante going on the disabled list is made, Danny Valencia will fill-in. If the Royals don’t like what they see and feel Infante needs a trip to the DL, it’s possible that either Johnny Giavotella or Christian Colon could be called up, though how much playing time they’d receive is unknown as Valencia would likely draw the majority of any starts.
