Sam Bennett Sits Atop Final 2014 NHL Draft Rankings

The final Central Scouting Service rankings were released on Tuesday, and to no one’s real surprise, Sam Bennett finds himself atop the rankings of North American skaters. Kasperi Kapanen — son of former NHLer Sami Kapanen — finished with the top European skater ranking.

“There are guys who elevate their game when it matters most, and you’re looking to project which players will do that consistently at the next level,” NHL Director of Central Scouting Dan Marr said via NHL.com. “The guys we have at the top all are in that mold, but when we look at Sam Bennett we see a guy who could potentially have a Jonathan Toews type of career.”

The top five North American skaters are as follows:

  1.  Sam Bennett – Kingston
  2. Aaron Ekblad – Barrie
  3. Sam Reinhart – Kootenay
  4. Leon Draisaitl – Prince Albert
  5. Michael Dal Colle – Oshawa

The top five International skaters are:

  1.  Kasperi Kapanen
  2. William Nylander
  3. Kevin Fiala
  4. Jakub Vrana
  5. David Pastrnak
