UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson finally has a date set for his next title defense. After weeks of speculation and rumors, UFC officials have announced that Johnson will be taking on Ali Bagautinov in the main event of UFC 174 in Vancouver.
Surprisingly, this will be the first time in Johnson’s UFC career that he has headlined an event and the first time that the UFC’s 125-pound title will be up for grabs on pay-per-view.
Johnson (19-2-1) is currently on a five-fight winning streak, with his last title defense coming with a vicious knockout of Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez.
Bagautinov (13-2), meanwhile, has hauled off 11 straight wins and has not tasted defeat since 2011.
UFC 174 takes place on June 14 at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Along with the Johnson vs. Bagautinov title bout, the event will feature a No. 1 contender match in the welterweight division between Rory MacDonald and Tyron Woodley.
