Fans of The Simpsons will want to clear their calendars in August as FXX is going to give us all the Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, Maggie and the rest of the familiar faces from Springfield as the cable network will air all 522 episodes that will span 12 days, according to Variety.
“It will be the longest continuous marathon in the history of television,” said Jon Landgraf, chief executive of FX Networks, at an upfront presentation held Wednesday in New York. An app is expected to debut in coming weeks and while executives at the presentation suggested the name “Simpsons World” had been bandied about, FX Networks spokesman John Solberg said a name for the digital outlet was “not formalized yet.” The app would be distinct from the FXNow mobile-viewing application already available.
“Think of it as a comprehensive, beautifully curated digital library of all things ‘Simpsons,’” Landgraf said . “I’m absolutely blown away by what I’ve seen. This could well be the best app I have ever seen.”
Landgreaf is not the only one blown away by this development. Speak as a lifelong fan of the Fox comedy, I may have to take some vacation time and clear my DVR to make sure I have enough space to record the 522 episodes that span 26 seasons.
To envision there will be an app on top of this all that will be feature “all things Simpsons” on top of the near-fortnight worth of binge watching is enough to make any fan as excited as Homer with an endless supply of donuts.
