Late Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers and general manager Mitch Kupchak went through the final stages of negotiations to complete a multi-year contract extension. ESPN Los Angeles’ Ramona Shelburne passed along the news.
Financial terms of the extension were not confirmed.
The Lakers are currently on pace for the worst season in franchise history, but the Buss family is expressing their confidence in Kupchak and showing that they believe he will be able to turn things around in the near future.
It will help the Lakers when they get star Kobe Bryant back next season, but they will also need to add some fresh, young talent to help get the team to the next level.
Kupchak took over as Lakers general manager in 2000, and has been with the team since his days as a player in 1986.
