The Toronto Blue Jays haven’t really missed a beat with closer Casey Janssen on the shelf thanks to Sergio Santos, but the reliever is doing better as he recovers from a back injury and is nearing a return.
Janssen tossed a bullpen session today for members of the Blue Jays coaching and medical staffs and came away feeling great, prompting manager John Gibbons to suggest the bullpen session as ‘impressive’.
Janssen was impressive in bullpen session today, Gibbons says. If next one goes well , he’ll likely be ready for a couple of rehab games.
The Blue Jays are expected to seen Janseen out on a rehab assignment in the coming days where he’ll be able to fine tune and prepare for Major League lineups again. Assuming there are no setbacks during the rehab stint, Janssen will likely be ready to rejoin the Jays bullpen in about a week (give or take).
Sergio Santos will continue to close for the Blue Jays during that time. The reliever has given up one run this season, accumulating three saves since Janssen went on the DL.
