There have been rumors aplenty involving the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching position and Mike D’Antoni ‘s future. There were reports that the Lakers were set to pursue Kentucky head coach John Calipari no matter what the outcome of their National Championship game. In fact, D’Antoni siad he felt sorry that Calipari had to deal with the rumors before his big game.
“You deal with it, and I hate it for John more than anybody because that puts an undue pressure on something before a big game that he doesn’t need to be distracted with,” D’Antoni said, via ESPN Los Angeles.
The Lakers also denied the reports of pursuing Calipari but that doesn’t mean D’Antoni is safe. Lakers beat reporter Dave McMenamin of ESPN Los Angeles said on Wednesday that the Lakers are leaning towards letting him go at the end of the season. D’Anotni is guaranteed $4 million next season.
