The college career of LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger came to an unfortunate end after he suffered a torn ACL, but he has made major strides as he works to rehab the injury and prove to teams around the NFL that he will be healthy enough to play in 2014.

Mettenberger has said that he is way ahead of schedule, and the latest report appears to back up that claim.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, LSU trainer Jack Marucci says that Mettenberger’s surgically repaired knee is now at “97 percent” after running through a test last Friday.

Marucci added that Mettenberger could play “if there was a game this week.”

It is obviously great news for Mettenberger, who is being considered as an early second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Mettenberger’s big arm and physical talents have been praised, along with his ability to show massive improvement at LSU as his career progressed.

One team that has shown interest in Mettenberger and is considered a potential landing spot in Round 2 is the Jacksonville Jaguars.
