As he wraps up his first spring session as head coach of the USC Trojans, Steve Sarkisian still has a major decision on his hands as to who the starting quarterback of the team will be. With Max Wittek transferring out, the battle has been down to Cody Kessler and Max Browne, and Sarkisian recently told the Los Angeles Times that he expects to make the final decision by the end of spring session.
“I would suspect we’ll do it before the end of spring,” Sarkisian said.
There is still two weeks left in spring practices for the Trojans, so there is still some time left, but you would have to think that Kessler will get the nod when all is said and done.
In the team’s resurgence last season following the firing of Lane Kiffin, Kessler did not play badly at all, finishing the season with 20 touchdowns and just seven interceptions while finishing off the season on a high note with the bowl win over Fresno State.
But again, there’s still two weeks left this spring, and Sarkisian wants to build the program in his image, and maybe he sees Browne as a better for that. We will know very soon.
